Note: This article is for the Standalone 360 Assessment, which is used by individuals who aren’t participating in a Torch coaching program.

What is the 360 Assessment?

The 360 Assessment is a comprehensive leadership evaluation tool that allows participants to reflect about themselves and receive feedback from others. Participants start by completing a self-assessment, then invite feedback from different colleagues like their manager, peers, and direct reports.

The results help participants explore their strengths, hidden strengths, challenges, and hidden opportunities so they can build a growth development plan that helps them reach their full potential.

What is the Standalone 360 Assessment?

We highly recommend that individuals participate in the 360 Assessment as part of a Torch coaching program to get a fresh perspective, with ongoing guidance in a safe and supportive environment. However, we also offer the Standalone 360, which makes the 360 Assessment available on the Torch platform outside of a specific coaching program.

The Standalone 360 Assessment requires someone assigned to the Expert role to release and debrief the 360 results with participants.

How exactly does the Standalone 360 Assessment work?

We’ll send participants an email invitation prompting them to create a Torch account (if they’re a new user), or log in to Torch. They’ll complete their self-assessment, then invite at least 5 colleagues from different roles (like their manager, peers, and direct reports) to provide feedback.

Once the release criteria have been met, an assigned Expert will review the results and release them to the participant. The participant will get an email notification when their results are ready, and debrief them together with the Expert.

What is an Expert and do we need one?

An Expert plays a crucial role in the Standalone 360 Assessment process. They monitor participants’ 360 Assessment statuses, release 360 results, debrief results with participants, and guide participants throughout the process.

We require an Expert to be involved in the 360 process to ensure psychological safety and help participants get the most value from the feedback. We recommend a trained professional debrief feedback with the participant; this creates a safe space and helps the participant process their feedback in a positive way.

Having someone to discuss ideas, reactions, and next steps with, and to help participants focus on actionable and valuable feedback, is vital for the process’s success. A coach, mentor, or manager can all be effective partners for reviewing a participant’s results.
