Understanding Partnership Pauses

Article Summary

A partnership should be paused when it is known that a participant will not make progress for an extended period of time, and the expectation is that they should not “lose” that time in their coaching program. For example, you may want to pause a particular coaching partnership while one of the participants is out on parental leave. Once that participant returns and is ready to pick up where they left off, the partnership can be resumed with future dates updated accordingly.

NOTE: If a participant's partnership needs to be paused, submit a case to Torch Support for assistance. Keep in mind that the maximum pause length is 2 months. For pauses longer than 2 months, you'll need to work with Torch to arrange the appropriate path forward that respects the participant's time away as well as the coach's bandwidth.

What happens when a partnership is paused

At the time a partnership is paused:

  • The participant is notified the partnership has been paused via email. The email includes the following text: Your Torch program “[Partnership Name, such as 1:1 Coaching with (Coach First Name)]" has been paused. When you are ready to resume your program or if you have any questions, please reach out to us.

  • A notification banner on the Torch Home dashboard will provide next steps for the participant when they're ready to resume their program, and the coaching details card will display a "Paused" label.

Partnership Paused
  • Users will not be able to interact with the partnership while it is paused. This includes scheduling meetings, completing tasks, taking surveys, and messaging their coach on the Torch platform. Additionally, any future meetings scheduled before the pause will be automatically canceled.

  • No further program notifications will be sent out until the partnership is resumed.

  • Any active Surveys or Meetings action items from the partnership will be hidden from your admin dashboard.

What happens when a partnership is resumed

At the time a partnership is resumed:

  • Participants are notified the partnership has resumed via email. The email includes the following text: Your coaching program “[Partnership Name, such as 1:1 Coaching with (Coach First Name)]” has resumed. The end date has changed to [Updated Partnership End Date]. If you have any questions, please reach out to us.

  • The coaching details card on the Torch Home dashboard will update to its previous state, with the "Paused" label removed.

  • Scheduled notifications will be sent out based on the updated partnership dates. Any task start dates occurring in the future at the time of the pause will be pushed back by the duration of the pause. For example, if a task was scheduled to appear on October 1st and the partnership was paused for 30 days, the task will now appear on October 31st when the partnership is resumed.

  • Any previously active Surveys or Meetings action items from the partnership will re-populate in your admin dashboard.

TORCH TIP: The updated start dates are based off the exact number of days of the pause. This means that a 30-day pause results in a 30-day delay and not necessarily a 1-month delay if the month is 31 days long. For example, while a partnership paused for 30 days starting on October 1st will resume on October 31st and not November 1st, a partnership paused for 30 days starting on June 1st will resume on July 1st.
